Supermoon 2011

On march 19th this year 2011, The moon was closest to the earth in the last 18 years. This happened with the full moon coinciding with the day the moons orbit was closest to the earth. Supermoons occur every time a perigee — the point of the moon’s orbit at which it is closest to the Earth — and a syzygy (a full or new moon) are aligned, according to NASA. During some “supermoons,” however, the two do not perfectly coincide but come very close to each other. This year they coincided and the result is seen in these shots.
